Frederick J.
On December 22, 2011 of Voorhees, NJ. Age 86 years. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frederick C. and Marie Dougherty Maurer. Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Canberra which was struck by a torpedo during the liberation of the Philippines. He spent most of his career in Purchasing until he retired from OKI Data Corp; was a member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, the VFW Post #6253 and DAV. He enjoyed music, photography and did extensive research in genealogy. Fred was the loving husband of the late Ellen Bennett Maurer for 53 years. He was the devoted father of Maryellen Maurer, Frederick Maurer and Janice Maurer and much loved Pop-Pop to his grandchildren: William Sundermann (Marybeth), Michael Sundermann, Matthew Sundermann, David Downey, Jeannine Greenberg (Elliot), Kirsten Diegel, Brianna Diegel, Julianna Maurer, Samantha Maurer and Frederick Maurer and his great-grandchildren, Caden, Kieran and Sarah Rose Sundermann. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Maurer. The Maurer family would like to thank all of his wonderful neighbors, especially Janet Bartley and her son Brendan for helping Fred to live the independent life that was so important to him. He always said that he had the "best neighbors in the world." His smiling face with be missed by many. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 7:00PM-9:00PM at the COSTANTINO FUNERAL HOME 231 W. WHITE HORSE PIKE BERLIN, NJ 08009. No Tuesday morning viewing.
