Age 90 years.  Beloved wife of the late Mark Gray.  Dear sister of Mary Boyd (Jerry), the late Juanita Woods, Mildred Beller and Helen Maras.  Also survived by her namesake Sally Hodgkins of FL, many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Tom and Fran Garrity & family. Rest in peace. Oh,how I loved the beautiful cowgirl who used to babysit me before school on the Popeye Theater. My mom would have to leave for work, & I would sit eating my breakfast watching the most beautiful cowgirl ever. Long blond hair worn in a ponytail under your white cowgirl hat, I've loved you for many years. Seeing you signing autographs in the Berlin Farmers Market, I was so excited to stand in line for my turn of an autographed photo of "our girl Sal." When I told you that you were still as beautiful as I remembered, you finished signing & turned to me & said," Why,Jeannie, you are just as sweet and dear as I remember you!Love,Luck & Lollipops." You will always be a beautiful memory of my childhood, and I am so sad that you are gone. I look forward to seeing you in Heaven one day. Sleep peacefully, my beautiful Sally Starr.

My heart goes out to Sally's sister Mary and her family. I am so sad about Sally. I am happy she is at peace now. I am honored to say I was a great friend of hers. We had the pleasure of playing music with her in a band. We ate dinner at her house. She was a great cook. We stay at her home to help her out after her car accident and the lists goes on and on. Many memories. I will always have Sally in my heart and will remember her always. Love ya Sally. Until we meet again. Like a quote of yours "May the Good Lord be blessing you and your family. Bye for now." Me and my husband Crazy Bob can't wait to celebrate with you again in God's glorious heaven. RIP Sally. you will never be forgotten.

When I was ten, dear Sally, I appeared on your show (WFIL 1957) to have you hand over the reins of a wonderful Shetland pony that I had won, in your 'Make a cattle-brand out of your initials' contest. My pony was more than a dream come true. She (you) taught me that when we honor our heart's desires and follow our dreams - respectfully, trustingly, and persistently...the benevolent universe will respond. Thank you dear, amazing Sally Starr. I am but one of so many, many, (a little older now:) kids who adored you... and took your kind words and lessons to heart. And we all - world wide - know you are dancing with the (other) angels now...all the while and forever more living in our hearts. I offer my deepest condolences to your immediate family and special loved ones. You made a huge, and most loving, difference, in the world - for the world, Sally. Thank you, forever. Rest in Peace, my dearest "teacher" and way-shower.

Hi fellow Sally Starr fans. TONS of fans are saddened by the passing of this special lady. When my husband and I were getting married, we went to see a catering hall in Northeast Philly at an "open house" type of event one evening. Low and behold at the desk was Our Gal Sal! What a thrill and, yes, we booked the hall! Sympathies to the family -- we'll all grieve with you. Sally was one SPECIAL lady.

I was very privledged and honored to know Sally, over the past several years, we shared numerous personal appearances together from the radio station WVLT, and always had a great time doing them. I will surely miss her, and her down to earth comments that she said from the heart. Sally never mixed words, she said what she meant, and meant what she said. She inspired many people, she brought so much love, laughter and happiness into thousands of peoples lives. She had such a great out look in life, and always took time to meet and greet the kids around her. She considered all of us who grew up watching her on TV, "her kids"! You have certainly earned your place in heaven Sally, for all the joy and happiness you have brought into all of our lives. Love, Luck and Lollipos Sally, and till we meet again! May you Rest in Peace!

My heartfelt prayers go out to your family. I have the most wonderful memories that you made for me through the T.V. every afternoon. I could not wait til I got my Cowgirl outfit on and my six-shooters and I was you. You were my Teacher and Role Model and I know I am a better person because of it. Fast forward to 2002 and I was getting married in a Western Wedding to my Country singing Cowboy. I called you and asked you to come to my Wedding and you did. In the past 10 years, everyone talks about you being there for me at my Wedding and their memories of you. That was and is the Best day of my Life. Your picture sits proudly on my desk and not a day goes by that I don't think about the joy you brought to this Cowgirl's heart! I love you and miss you!

Sally – Thank you for being such a special part of our family. Although not related by blood, you were like family to us. I will always remember the special times at family functions, at the live broadcast of your radio show and the many times you would just stop and pick up a bucket of chicken and stop at my parents’ house just to hang out. Thank you for the special attention you gave to my sister Mary. She would listen to your radio show, knowing you would say hi and send out special dedications to her. But most of all thank you for being such a great friend to my mom. While we were all sad to see you go, we knew it was time. No more suffering, no more pain. I am thankful that mom was able to be by your side with your sister Mary during your final moments. May you rest in peace, share your “love luck and lollipops” with everyone in heaven and those of us still here on earth. May my parents and my sister MaryBeth find peace in knowing how important they were to you. May your memories continue to bring smiles to the faces of your many friends and fans. May you continue to watch over those who loved you. We love you Sally! Love, Fran Garrity Schliminger

The power and love for Our Gal Sal...I was four years old and my mother was taking me to have my tonsils out. As you would expect when the nun came to collect me I started to scream and held on tight to my mother, until the nun whispered in my ear. I promptly let go of my mother and without even a wave good-bye I disappeared into the ward ahead of the nun. When my mother asked the nun what she said to me the nun simply replied that they had Sally Starr on the TV and I needed to get down the hall or I would miss her. And off I went into the unknown, because I knew Sally Starr was at the end of the hall waiting for me. May God Bless and Keep Sally Starr.
Sandy DeGeorge 2013-01-30 19:12:47

I've never known life without Sally Starr. I had the great honor of seeing her in person at least 5 times in my life and she was always sweet and gracious to everyone. When she opened Popeye Theater with "I hope you feel as good as you look, 'cause you sure look good to your gal Sal," I thought she could actually see me in my living room! I hope she is watching us all and reading everything written about her so she knows how much she was adored. Bye for now Sal... see you again one day.

My sincere condolences to Sally's family and friends. Had the pleasure on several occassions to play piano for Sally when she would come out to the clubs and support live country music..I so enjoyed her smile, personality and wit. Such a sharp minded lady who loved to tell her stories of how she made it in the business, along with all the problems...Much respected and loved...I will miss you young lady...Remember our inside joke about dating each other just to start a rumor...That was hilarious...I will miss you. Lots of good memories growing up watching Our Gal Sal on Popeye to see her many times in person over the years; the last time was a couple of years ago at an antique store in Hammonton where she was doing her radio broadcast live...that was a wonderful surprise. Another time she was appearing at G-Boys, my Dad wanted to see her, he was in a wheelchair and when we got there she came over started talking to him and my Mom, then she put her arms around my Dad and we took their picture...that really made his day...Thank You! RIP, God Bless and thanks for the memories…Love, Luck and Lollipops.

Our Gal Sal will certainly be missed. She was such a nice lady, as we met her several times and she was so kind to my Dad who had had a stroke. We took him to see her at G-Boys and she could not have been nicer. She got up from signing her autographs, to get a picture taken with my Dad and Mom. I remember when we were young and couldn't wait to get home from school to watch her at 4pm on Channel 6 each day. She will be missed. God Bless Our Gal Sal. Love, Luck & Lollipops!

'Our gal Sal' will be remembered for the countless apprearances she appeared in the Burlington County area especially yearly at the Zurbrugg Hospital Spring fair and the Willingboro Plaza at the Fox Theater. My Saturdays were filled with fun not only watching her show in the morning and seeing her in person in the afternoon along with other Channel 6 local children show hosts like Cheif Halftown and Gene London. My wife was also in the audience unknown at that time watching the same shows. May you rest in peace and thanks for all the joy we gave us for the "Philly kids of the 60's and 70's. E92TH4

Memories of watching Sally Starr on TV when I was little, the joy of appearing on her show, having my own Sally Starr doll and my own Sally Starr outfit including a special cowboy hat that I would walk up and down the back patio for hours and hours are definitely among my most treasured and happy childhood memories. Thank you for your loving smile and allowing your fans to share your life always. RIP Sally Starr and know you are forever loved.

Hello fellow fans. My brothers & I watched religiously in the afternoon. We saw her at the old Riverview Park and it was a REALLY big deal for all the kids there. Then we moved away on Nov. 22, 1963. Later I got old & the internet was invented. I was thrilled that it provided a way to see how active she remained. Few if any stars ever met their public more, and for so long. Reading all these tributes proves that Sally was the biggest Starr of them all.
Birdie 2013-02-02 09:50:43
Thanks for being there, Sally

I remember meeting Sally at the elementary school in Stratford, NJ when I was five or six...I wanted so badly to meet her and many children were surrounding her. I watched her show every day and couldn't believe she was standing near by looking so beautiful in her white cowgirl outfit and hat! i remember starting to cry as I also wanted to meet and speak with her. Sally must have seen that I was crying and walked over to me and kissed me on the cheek. I never forgot her kindness. I saw her again as an adult in a medical facility. I worked there and went out into the waiting area to say hello. She asked me to sit with her and we had a great time reminiscing. What a wonderful lady....

I remember being glued to the TV for my Popeye Theater and Three Stooges fix each and every day. And how excited all the township kids were when Our Gal Sal visited the Cardiff Circle Auction in Egg Harbor Twp back in the early 60's...She drove up in a Powder Blue Lincoln convertible decked out in her famous Western fringes, hat, and boots. She was so beloved by so many of us kids. To me, she was truly like having a kindly aunt babysit me from over the air. 'All righty-rooney' she used to say!! God Bless and Keep you, Dear Sally. Thank you for some of my fondest childhood memories. In looking through your photos, it is so evident how much you were loved, And how much YOU loved others... Love, Luck and Lollipops Forever. Many a child's world was a better place for your having been a part of it..xxooo

Sorry for such a great loss of a Special Lady who has touched so many. I remember when Sally Star took the special time out of her day to be in the local annual Dogwood Parade in Phoenixville, PA. It really made my day when she road by while in the parade and waved and smiled to me. It was a special day, after all a TV STAR, a celebrity came to Phoenixville, PA to be in the parade. To this day the parade still goes on every year in Phoenixville, PA around the week end closest to May 16th. A Dogwood Queen is selected and festivities go for days. The parade has been known to go for as long as three and four hours sometimes.

I've know Sally over 50 years and was her personal photographer and creator of her first website. I took many of the photos in her gallery and all shots from the "Annie Get Your Gun" show. She was very kind to me when I lived in her Florida home for several years. I will miss and always remember her along with countless fans. "Love. Luck & Lollipops!" Bye for now, Sal. Hank O'Brien

Dear Mary and family, I was saddened to hear the loss of your family member. I would run home from school; just to see my favorite show. I remember Poyeye and the three stooges. As children we had good clean show to challenge our imagination. Sally Starr had many, many adopted children, I was one of them. I feel that I have loss a family member. I felt that when she sent her signature love, luck and lollipops, then the kiss; I catch the kiss. I now send a kiss back to her, for touching my childhood as she has. Family stay strong for one another. I will be praying for the family. Thanks for sharing Sally Starr with us.

Our Gal Sal and Dick Clark were a daily routine and in the past two years we have given both back to the heavens above. As Our Gal Sal rode off into the light of the sunset, I hope with the Good Lord she saw again her departed husband, family, friends, fans, and yes, even her horses and pets. That would be the ultimate joy in the hereafter. We will miss you dearly. Be at peace Sweetie, until we all meet again!

I miss Sally!! I used to watch her on tv, when I was little. I had an innocent boy crush on her! I saw her, in a parade, in Camden,N.J. when I was small. Later, in years, I used to see her in Rittenhouse Sq. I work across the street from there. My friend got me an autograph from Sally, but I lost it! My Grandfather used to hang out with Sally, before I was born, his name was Robert Covey. Alex Benzuk, Oaklyn, N.J.
